Our Management Team
Our founders bring all necessary competences to the oncology drug development arena
SMS-oncology’s management consist of the following team members:
Eric van der Putten, BSc, Chief Executive Officer/Chief Operating Officer
- Has over 20 years of clinical oncology research experience
- Started his career as Head Trial Department at the Comprehensive Cancer Center Amsterdam in 1983
- Performed Project Management activities in various roles related to strategic marketing, e-clinical research and Data Management (1990 – 2000)
- Joined NDDO Oncology in 2000 where he was Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer, and became Vice-President Oncology Europe for INC Research
- Has phase I-IV experience across all tumor types and treatment modalities. Consults pharmaceutical and biotech companies on oncology drug development on a regular basis
- Published several articles on drug development and clinical trial methodology
Eric’s particular competence is in early clinical development of oncology products in the Europe and in the management of drug development projects.
Edwin Klumper, MD, PhD, MBA, Chief Scientific Officer
- Wrote his PhD thesis on “Drug resistance and relapsed leukaemia”
- Has over 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry
- Was Medical Director for Yew Tree, an oncology-specialized biotech
- Lead the Business Unit Oncology for Asta Medica, The Netherlands
- Was Vice-President, Aranesp Business Unit for Amgen Europe at their Swiss office (500 million EUR turn-over)
- Joined Nabi, a US biotech company as Chief Operating Officer Europe to launch EU operations
- Trained in Bio-business Course at Harvard University in Boston
Edwin’s main competence is translating his medical oncology expertise into business success through in product positioning, pre-marketing, market introduction & sales of medicine for both small start-up and large biotech companies.
Erik Leferink, Business Director
- Started as a business developer for MIRAI, a CRO later acquired by Parexel
- Founded DOCS International, a clinical consultancy and staffing organization which now employs over 350 staffing consultants and clinical professionals in 9 European countries (DOCS was acquired by ICON Clinical Research in the summer of 2007)
- Founded Pharmahouse, a consultancy to Academic Clinical Research Organizations
Erik’s main competence is in setting up and developing young service companies that deliver sustainable services to innovative healthcare industries, both in the pharmaceutical and the biotechnology field.
